First United Methodist Chancel Choir
The First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir meets every
Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 pm from late August through May. We
perform a variety of music ranging from the classics (Bach, Brahms,
Mendelssohn, Mozart, etc.) to contemporary, and work closely with Pastors
Blaine and Annie to relate the anthems sung to the theme of the message of
the week. We sing for the 9:45 service on the first, third and fifth Sundays
of the month, and the 11:10 service on the second and fourth Sundays.
Exceptions are singing for both services for Rally Sunday, Thanksgiving
Sunday, Special Music Sunday in December, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. We
also perform a special evening Christmas Concert, and a cantata on Palm
Sunday. Past cantatas include Easter Carols arranged by Robert Shaw,
and The Seven Last Words of Christ by Dubois. This year we will
perform excerpts from Bach’s Passion According to St. John. Our
Director is James Werner who has an extensive resume as a performer and
conductor.

First United Methodist Church’s
Artistic Outreach to the Community
First United Methodist
Church is proud of its long history of supporting the arts in Grand
Junction. The sanctuary has long had a reputation for its excellence as a
concert venue – great acoustics and fine pipe organ, grand piano and
clavinova. We are proud to be the rehearsal home of a number of performing
groups including High Desert Opera, The Schumann Singers, The Senior Theater
and the Celtic Concerts. On the second Wednesday of every month from
September through May we open our doors for a free concert series, “Little
Noon Music” featuring the best musicians in the grand valley. |
