Visiting Scholars to FUMC

Periodically FUMC will welcome scholars to share their insight on a variety of religious, spiritual and social topics. Everyone is welcome!

Sunday, September 20, 2009  2-4pm
The Center for the Church and Global AIDS Presentation with Question & Answer Opportunity, and Tea Time

Dr. Don Messer will present on his extensive work in India, Africa, and Asia to develop programs that combat the pandemic disease, AIDS.  He will share a slideshow of outreach efforts and answer questions about a disease that is taking the lives of innocent people everyday.

 
This is a great opportunity to learn more about AIDS and how people of faith can be part of the solution.  Rev. Annie and others will also participate with devotions, prayers, and experiences.  A special quarters offering will be taken (bring your quarters!).

 

October 17-18, 2009 
Iliff Associate Professor of Religious Education, Dr. Katherine Turpin
 

Saturday, 5-8pm— Dinner and a presentation for families, including grandparents and others, called, Keeping Sacred Time for Families.  Dr. Turpin will share her wealth of
information about children and youth and how to help keep the balance between sacred time and secular play.

Sunday, 8:30-9:30am— Leaders, teachers, and those interested in leading adult groups are invited to participate in and gain knowledge about Adult Learning Theory.  Dr. Turpin will share some tips for teaching and offer a model of learning with a Powerpoint presentation.

 

November 21-22, 2009
Iliff School of Theology President, Dr. David Trickett

Saturday, 6:30-8:30pm—Hear about Dr. Trickett’s involvement with interfaith dialogue and the richness it can bring to our faith.  This is also an opportunity to learn more about the Abrahamic faiths: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.  

Sunday, 11:00am—Join Dr. Trickett for a follow-up discussion over coffee with a
chance to ask questions and hear more.  The Headlines group will meet as a part of this discussion.  Everyone is welcome!
