Tips for Learning and for Sharing Your Faith Story

Ideas of how to share our faith in meaningful ways to others. It can help them find what's missing in their life. Also, things to consider when inviting someone to church.

A Key Principle: people want to know how much you care before they care how much you know!

1)     What are your basic Christian beliefs: become more consciously aware of them.

2)     Know your story: Where I was (the problems/challenges), what I did (the spiritual solution/support), where I am now (living better w/help of faith) – be able to tell it in under 3 minutes.

3)     Think about what it means to you personally to be a part of the church, e.g. friends, sense of belonging & support; rather than the church as an organization e.g. history, Methodism, building.

4)     FRANK people: Friends, Relatives, Associates, Neighbors, Kids. Write down names and pray for them.

5)     Ask God to present the persons & situations for faith sharing to occur.

6)     Open the door for conversations to occur. Let it be known in casual & comfortable ways that you attend church, pray, have hope through God.

Some ABC’s to Consider When Inviting Someone to Church

A) Make no assumptions about what they may know about your church: it’s location, style of worship, times of events.

B) Start with the basic inspiration of how being part of the people at the church makes you feel. (what you gain from being in relationship with God thru the people at church)

C) Offer to drop by & take them to worship, or meet them outside the doors on 5th st. (don’t make them come inside the building to find you).

D) Let them know the starting & ending time frames, so they know what to expect.

E) While at the church together, introduce them to other friendly people near their age or life situation.

F) Follow up. Fill out the attendance pad so the church office can send them a welcome note. Ask them later in the week how their experience of worship was, and if they would like to go with you again.
